William Luft

William is a Lifelong resident of Hall and Nance counties. William "Wild Bill" Luft lived through prohibition, the depression and WWII.
SGT William Luft served in the United Stated Army WWII Pacific Theater. From 1944 - 1946 with the 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division and the U.S. Army Pacific Command until honorably discharged. Father of 3, grandfather and great grandfather at his passing.
William was 1 of 16 to return home from his Battalion. He missed all the homecomings and parades, as he returned home on a hospital ship recovering from wounds, typhus and malaria. Months after the ceremonies returning home by train he was met by his parents, his mother gave him a big kiss and a telegram stating he was Killed In Action (Red Cross later corrected on hospital ship)..
Some awards he received include: Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB), Glider Badge (GB), Bronze Star Medal for Valor, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal
