Adrian Joseph Lewandowski was born on June 12, 1948 in Loup City, Nebraska to Leonard and Adeline Lewandowski. He is the second born of 13 children and graduated from Elba High School.
In March 1969, Adrian was drafted into the United States Army where he completed basic and advanced infantry training in Fort Louis, Washington. In August of 1969, Adrian was deployed to Vietnam and was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile). During the first 9 months in Vietnam, Adrian's company was on search and destroy missions, carrying a 7-day food and water supply. The following 3 months, they set up ambush positions, carrying a 3-day food and water supply.
While in Vietnam, Adrian was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Air Medal. Adrian returned to Fort Louis, Washington in August of 1970 where he was reassigned to the 3rd Armored Calvary Division. While in Washington, he received training in preparation of possible protest and riot attacks.
Today, Adrian lives in Grand Island, Nebraska with his wife Verna. Prior to retirement, he worked at Chief Industries for 32 years. He has 4 adult children.
