Ellery C. Lenz led a distinguished life of service to his country, beginning with his enlistment in the armed forces in January 1939. After joining the 4th Cavalry in April 1940, he committed to a nine-year term in the Army, during which he earned several honors, including the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the American Service Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. His dedication to his country continued as he transitioned to the Air Force, where he served as a recruiting officer for 12 years.

One notable moment in his Air Force career occurred in July 1950 when Sergeant Ellery Lenz represented the branch by raising the colors at the opening of the Veterans Hospital. He was honorably discharged in 1967 after a long and impactful military career.

In his personal life, Ellery was married to Donna Hann and they had two sons, David and Loren. After his military service, he worked for Overland National Bank and later spent six years at the Nebraska Veterans Home. He passed away in 1992, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.
