Larry R Boersen SN E4 was born 07/20/46, in GI, NE to Fritz & Pearl Boersen. He attended GISH before volunteering to join the Navy with his mother’s written permission as he was only 17. He attended U.S Naval Amphibious School Coronado, San Diego, CA where he completed his instruction in Assault Boat Coxswain. He was in from 1963-1967. Larry was on the USS Bayfield (APA-33) a class attack transport that conducted troop and MIKE boat landings at Da Nang, Chu Lai, and Cua Viet from 1965-1967. Larry had lots of jobs while on the Cua Viet River. Jobs he never spoke of. After his service in the Navy, he came back to GI, married Karen, and had twin girls. He worked at Chief Ind. until his forced retirement from lung cancer due to Agent Orange. In 2016 he got to go on the Hero Flight. Larry was not proud of being in Vietnam when he first got out but as time went on, he was “damn proud”. As is his family! He especially loved the welcome home he received from this flight that he never got in 1967. Larry passed away 08-03-24 from Agent Orange, leaving behind Karen, twin daughters, 6 grandkids, and 8 great grandkids.
