Marvin Rex Van Dyke born March 2, 1949. Graduated from Centura High School 1968. Drafted by Army April 9, 1969. Completed Basic Training Ft. Lewis, Washington, Field Artillery School Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. August 22, 1969 married Sharon Ann Ford in Cairo, Nebraska.
Sent to Vietnam February, 1970 as a Sargeant over men on a Howitzer. First 6 months with 199th, last 6 months with the 1st Air Calvary. Also sent Cambodia for Cambodia campaign. Was shot down in a helicopter 3 times. Attained sharpshooter status.
Honorably discharged February 21, 1971 living in Grand Island. Awarded Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Attended Hastings Central Community College receiving an Electronics Degree. Worked for Northwestern Bell (US West, Qwest) 25 years. Successful Soccer Coach for the Warriors 10-12 years coaching including his son.
Loved working, raising cattle on his acreage in Cairo, NE.-Van Dyke Land and Cattle. Loved dancing, hunting, fishing, bowling, softball, camping, boating, traveling, snow and water skiing and spending time at their Sherman Lake cabin. Loved family, children, grandchildren and Bullet his Brittany. Moved to Elkhorn, NE, July 2015.
