Robert Mueller enlisted in the Army on May 31, 2000, as a 19K Abrams Tank Crewman. He remained in the Army until his retirement as a Sergeant First Class on May 31, 2020. During his 20 years of service, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas; Hohenfels, Germany; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Benning (Moore), Georgia; and again at Fort Riley. He deployed six times: Three times to Iraq (2003, 2004-2005, 2014-2015), once to Kuwait (2002), Afghanistan (2008), and Korea (2016-2017).
He participated in the invasion of Iraq and was wounded on his second deployment to Iraq, earning the Purple Heart. During his deployment to Afghanistan, he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, one with a valor device for his role during a seven-hour firefight.
He was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, 10 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, a Combat Action Badge, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, among others. SFC Mueller served as a tank driver, loader, gunner, tank commander, and platoon sergeant, and served as an instructor and Division Battle NCO. He graduated from Liberty University before retirement and is the proud son of Lloyd and Marilyn Mueller and the proud husband to Heather (Draper) Mueller.
