Doug was raised in Grand Island, attended Jefferson Elementary School, Walnut Junior High and Grand Senior High School. Member of the GISH Coach Rod Shada Wrestling Team, delivered newspapers for the Grand Daily Independent, worked for Dick Baasch Welding starting in 7th grade through graduation. Worked for John Baasch Welding and Kalkowski Construction till entering the Navy. Entered the United States Navy in 1981, retiring in 2001.
Doug attended Nuclear Repair Training and repaired Nuclear Submarines/Aircraft Carriers and Surface Ships.

Retired from Central Nebraska Regional Airport as Operations/Security Manager. Elected to Grand Island City Council and Hall County Airport Authority
