Roy was born and raised in the small town of Gauley Bridge, WV in 1945. After high school graduation he had plans to become a mortician and was going to take over their town funeral home, during one of his college summers he had off he was drafted, he would joke throughout his life this was the only lottery he would ever win.
This would take him to Albuquerque NM for the next 4 years. He returned home and attended Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. Roy would go on to raise his family in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the 193rd special operations group and teach at Penn States Medical School.
He would finish out his career at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. Roy was a patriot to his country as well as a family man. He worked hard and always did what was right. He never knew a stranger.
