John grew up and graduated high school in Gothenburg Nebraska. While in high school John assisted the local honor guard by bugling TAPS for military funerals. As a member of the Boy Scouts he earned his Eagle badge and is a Vigil member in the Order of the Arrow. He joined the Army in 1986 as Military Police and completed basic in Fort McClellan Alabama. In the 1991 Gulf War his unit ran a POW camp and processed over 20,000 enemy prisoners of war. John served for 11 years in the Army Reserves.
After the war, John got married and was blessed with one son, Christopher Larson. John became a Deputy Sheriff for the Dawson County Sheriffs Office where he worked for 5 years. He then transitioned to insurance adjusting for weather catastrophes for 15 years. John ended his working life by founding and operating Veterans 4 Veterans Construction for 5 years.
In retirement he has gotten involved locally with the creation of the Hall County Warriors Memorial. This led to becoming the commander of VFW post 1347. I am a life member of the VFW and American Legion and a Nebraska Navy Admiral.
