Army Corporal Larry L. Hobbs was born on November 17, 1946, in Grand Island, son of Everett and Dorothy (Ferguson) Hobbs. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Island attending Lincoln Elementary School, Walnut Middle School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to Cu Chi Base Camp during his time in the country and was present during the Tet Offensive of 1968. During the Tet Offensive Ho Chi Minh sent 70,000 of his troops and members of the Viet Cong- to overrun military bases. During his time in the jungles of Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange which had a strong influence on his health over the years.
After his honorable discharge he returned to Grand Island and was employed by the Central Regional Airport Maintenance Manager for over 36 Years. On April 8, 1996, he married Vilma Bacalso Timkang. Larry passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, from his medical problems encountered from Agent Orange contamination during the Vietnam War, Larry had 3 children, Annie (Sean) McClatchey of Lincoln, Larry Hobbs Jr. of Omaha, and Casey Hobbs of Lincoln.
