Layton Ray Schlotfeld was born on July 30, 1944, to Earl W. and Viona K. Schlotfeld. Due to his father's work with farmers, he lived in various locations.
He served in the Army from 1961 to 1969, including time in Vietnam where Agent Orange exposure led to his leukemia. Layton married three times and had two daughters, as well as stepchildren through his marriages.
He spent years as an over-the-road truck driver and helped at Wieck's Auction in Grand Island. Layton had 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He passed away at home on August 31, 2022, at age 78.
